KLEMF Accepting Applications for Scholarships
The Kentucky Law Enforcement Memorial Foundation is now accepting applications for fall 2009 scholarships. This marks the sixth year that KLEMF has awarded scholarship money to law enforcement officers, dispatchers and their families to help pay for post-secondary educational costs. The foundation will award 25 scholarships and the deadline is June 30. GO HERE

Supreme Court Ruling Affects Vehicle Searches
Arizona v. Gant. questioned officers authority to search a vehicle once the driver or a passenger was arrested. In the past, our courts have allowed for such searches, regardless of the charges placed against the driver or other occupant. Gant has limited such searches, however. GO HERE

$15 million in Federal Stimulus Funds for Public Safety in Kentucky now Available
Federal stimulus funds are now available for supplemental public safety grants and justice programs including enforcement, substance abuse prevention and victims’ services. GO HERE

Victims of Crime Act (VOCA) funds available
Funding for programs that offer direct services to victims of violent crime is now available, according to Justice and Public Safety Secretary J. Michael Brown. Applications for the funding, which is received through the federal Victims of Crime Act (VOCA), are due by June 12, 2009. GO HERE

Recovery Act Internet Crimes against Children Research Grant
OJJDP seeks research and data collection to further our understanding of technology and internet-facilitated crimes against children and to improved investigation of such crimes. Deadline is May 14, 2009. GO HERE

Practice Makes Perfect in Dealing with Kentucky Emergencies
State officials want to be prepared for the possibility of a disease outbreak or manmade emergencies. Brig. Gen. John Heltzel, the head of Kentucky’s Division of Emergency Management, focuses on practicing new scenarios and improving rescuers’ response times. GO HERE
